A Zion man in his 20s was killed and a second man was injured during a shooting at Stretch’s Sports Bar and Grill in Waukegan early Christmas Eve morning, police said.
The Waukegan Police Department responded around 2:20 a.m. Saturday to Stretch’s Sports Bar and Grill, located at 200 North Green Bay Road in Waukegan, for a call of a shooting.
Officers located a victim with a gunshot wound and began lifesaving measures, according to Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Brian Mullen.
Fire department radio traffic indicated the victim was unresponsive and officers were performing CPR on him.
The Waukegan Fire Department transported the man to Vista Medical Center East where he died from his injuries.
He is described as a male in his 20s from Zion, Mullen said.
A second victim in the shooting had self-transported to Vista Medical Center East before officers arrived.
That victim, a male in his 20s from Waukegan, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The Waukegan Police Department Criminal Investigations Division and Major Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene to investigate.
Investigators are currently speaking with a person of interest, Mullen said.
Police are not releasing additional information about the suspects or specific events that occurred to maintain the integrity of the investigation.
Mullen said no charges have been filed yet and the case remains open and active.
The identity of the deceased man will be released by the Lake County Coroner’s Office once the next of kin notifications have been made and an autopsy has been completed.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Waukegan Police Department’s tip line at 847-360-9001.
