A 23-year-old man had to be extricated from his vehicle and flown to the hospital after a rollover crash in Ringwood Saturday evening, sheriff’s officials said.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 8:30 p.m. Saturday to Ringwood Road east of Route 31 in Ringwood.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Porfirio Campos-Cruz said deputies received a call for an accident with injuries.
Deputies arrived to find a 2005 Chevrolet Carryall that was rolled over on Ringwood Road.
The vehicle was occupied by a 23-year-old man who was trapped inside the car, Campos-Cruz said.
Fire crews had to extricate the male victim from the car.
Campos-Cruz said a preliminary investigation showed the Chevrolet appeared to have been traveling eastbound on Ringwood Road.
For unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway and went into the ditch.
The male victim was conscious but incoherent, Campos-Cruz said.
Paramedics transported the man to the helipad at Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry.
The ambulance transferred the man to an awaiting LifeNet medical helicopter, according to dispatch audio records.
The helicopter then transported the man to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, which is a Level 1 trauma center.
Campos-Cruz said the man suffered non-life-threatening injuries, including three broken ribs.
Investigators believe alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
The incident is still under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
