A mother is seeking answers after her teenage boy, who remains unresponsive, was hospitalized after being stabbed and beaten by a group outside of a bowling alley in Waukegan.
The mother, who did not want to be publicly named, told Lake and McHenry County Scanner the incident happened on December 16 at Bowlero, 631 Lakehurst Road in Waukegan.
The 17-year-old boy was at the bowling alley with friends when a group reportedly started a fight with him inside.
Employees at the business told both groups to leave.
Another fight occurred once the two groups were outside and someone stabbed the 17-year-old in the neck.
The mother of the boy said her son had nothing to do with what was going on and was leaving when he was attacked.
Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Brian Mullen confirmed officers responded to Bowlero around 10:06 p.m. that evening for a call of a fight.
Officers arrived but did not find anyone at the scene.
They later learned of what occurred and that the teenage boy was transported to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan by private car, Mullen said.
Mullen said no one is in custody yet and investigators are working to identify those involved.
He said that investigators are putting lots of effort into the case because of the serious injuries that the victim suffered.
The mother of the boy said her son was transferred from Vista to Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
The boy remains hospitalized almost two weeks after the incident.
He cannot speak or breathe on his own and is intubated on a breathing tube, his mother said.
Anyone with information on the suspects is urged to call the Waukegan Police Department’s tip line at 847-360-9001.
