Police have captured a wanted Zion man accused of leading police on a pursuit from Wisconsin to Lake County that ended with a manhunt Friday morning.
The Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin Police Department began pursuing a Dodge Journey around 2 a.m. Friday.
The driver was identified as Devin Dussault, 32, of Zion, which police recognized because he was wanted for felony stalking, criminal damage to property and bail jumping.
Pleasant Prairie police said that the charges stem from several cases of stalking and criminal damage that have occurred in their village over the last month.
Dussault has been appearing at the victim’s residence and workplace unannounced frequently during the overnight hours, police said.
He has made threats against the victim and also has damaged her property, police said, adding that his actions “have become increasingly more violent.”
The Dodge was pursued from the 8500 block of 39th Avenue after Dussault allegedly fled from officers at a high rate of speed and drove into oncoming traffic.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and other surrounding police departments were notified of the pursuit, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.
The pursuit entered Lake County’s jurisdiction and sheriff’s deputies assisted with blocking roadways to prevent cross-traffic from being struck during the pursuit, Covelli said.
The Dodge traveled southbound on Green Bay Road after entering Lake County and turned onto Wadsworth Road.
It proceeded westbound on Wadsworth Road and went northbound onto Dilleys Road in Wadsworth.
A police officer was able to successfully deploy spike sticks and disable the vehicle.
The Dodge came to a stop on Route 41 north of Wadsworth Road when it lost control and crashed, Covelli said.
Dussault fled on foot, believed to have gone into a wooded area, and police established a large perimeter in the area.
Dussault was possibly armed with a gun, according to police radio traffic.
Sheriff’s deputies along with Gurnee police, Waukegan police, Kenosha police, Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office and Pleasant Prairie police began searching for the suspect.
Law enforcement canines were utilized and sheriff’s deputies launched drones in an attempt to locate the man.
After searching for nearly three hours, the search was called off, Covelli said.
It appeared Dussault was likely able to call for a ride quickly after crashing his car, Covelli added.
A nationwide full extradition warrant was issued for Dussault’s arrest.
Police confirmed Saturday evening that Dussault was taken into custody by the Zion Police Department.
Zion police transported Dussault to the Lake County Jail where he remains held on the fugitive from justice warrant.
Dussault is scheduled to appear in Lake County court Monday morning.
