An Antioch man has been released on a $350,000 bond after being charged with sexually assaulting a child, who is a family member of his, in Antioch, court records show.

Ernesto D. Tamayo, 40, of Antioch, was charged with two counts of criminal sexual assault of a child and three counts of criminal sexual abuse of a child.

Antioch Village Communication Specialist Jim Moran told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that a report was made with the Antioch Police Department regarding Tamayo in September.

An investigation was launched and detectives learned Tamayo sexually assaulted a victim in August in Antioch, court records show and Moran said.

The victim is a family member of Tamayo and was under 18 years old at the time.

Detectives appeared before a Lake County judge at the beginning of December.

The judge found probable cause and signed an arrest warrant for Tamayo with a $350,000 bond.

The charges and investigation centered around a single occurrence, Moran said.

Tamayo surrendered last Wednesday and was processed in the Lake County Jail.

Records show he was released from the jail on Thursday after posting $35,000 cash, which is 10% of his bond.

The most serious charge against Tamayo is criminal sexual assault of a child, which is a Class 1 felony and carries a prison sentence of four to 15 years.

Tamayo appeared in court Wednesday morning for a bond review hearing.

He is scheduled to appear in court again on February 2 for a preliminary hearing.
