A suspect is in custody after they stole a car in North Chicago and then robbed a woman of her purse in the parking lot of a Jewel-Osco in Waukegan Wednesday morning.
A 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee was reported stolen around 8:55 a.m. Wednesday from Speedy Taco, 2722 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in North Chicago.
An alert broadcasted to area police departments said the Jeep was stolen by two male black suspects.
The Jeep fled northbound on Green Bay Road from Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
A short time later, the same Jeep was reported to be involved in a robbery at the Jewel-Osco, 922 North Green Bay Road in Waukegan.
The robbery occurred around 9:35 a.m. Wednesday and a second alert broadcasted to area police departments confirmed it was the same Jeep that had been stolen.
Two male black suspects forcefully took a woman’s purse in the parking lot of the grocery store, the alert said.
The main offender was described as being in his early teens, possibly as young as 13.
The Jeep fled from the Jewel-Osco southbound on Green Bay Road.
Officers later located the Jeep and took a suspect into custody just before 10:15 a.m. Wednesday.
The Waukegan Police Department could not immediately provide further details on the case on whether any charges had been filed yet.
