Armed robbery suspects were able to elude police after leading them on a pursuit from Zion to Waukegan in a stolen vehicle Friday evening.

The robbery was reported around 4:10 p.m. Friday in the 1000 block of Lakehurst Drive in Waukegan.

An alert was broadcasted to area police departments about the incident which said the suspect vehicle was a red Jeep Cherokee.

The Jeep was reported stolen out of Round Lake Beach.

Zion police spotted the Jeep around 5:30 p.m. and began to pursue it, officers reported over the radio.

Officers deployed spike strips but only one of the Jeep’s tires was hit by the spikes.

Officers reported chasing the vehicle southbound on Green Bay Road from Wadsworth Road.

The pursuit continued southbound on Green Bay Road and passed York House Road, Sunset Avenue and Grand Avenue.

The Jeep eventually pulled into the Shell gas station at Green Bay Road and Washington Street where officers reported that some of the passengers got out of the car and fled.

The Jeep drove eastbound on Washington Street, eventually reaching speeds of 55 mph while passing Washington Terrace.

Officers terminated the pursuit around 5:40 p.m. as the Jeep drove southbound on Lewis Avenue from Belvidere Road.

The Jeep was reported to have no rear tire left and was driving on the rim as a result of the earlier spike strip hit.
