Ramiro Gonsalez-Garcia, 43, of McHenry.

A judge sentenced a McHenry man to 63 years in prison on Thursday after he was found guilty of numerous charges for sexually assaulting a child over the span of several years.

Ramiro Gonsalez-Garcia, 43, of the 3100 block of Lake Street in McHenry, was charged in February 2020 with seven counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

He was later indicted by a grand jury on two additional counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said at the time that a “concerned parent” made a report with the sheriff’s office on February 1, 2020.

An investigation was launched by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division.

Detectives learned that Gonsalez-Garcia was sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13, who was in his care, officials said.

Gonsalez-Garcia was arrested on February 2, 2020, and transported to the McHenry County Jail.

Court records show the abuse occurred from approximately 2014 until January 2020.

A bench trial was held in October and McHenry County Judge Michael Coppedge rendered his decision in the case in November.

Coppedge found Gonsalez-Garcia guilty of all nine charges.

Gonsalez-Garcia has been held in jail since his arrest. Coppedge revoked the man’s bond after the verdict.

Coppedge on Thursday sentenced Gonsalez-Garcia to seven years in prison for each of the nine charges.

The sentences for each charge are required to be served consecutively, meaning a total of 63 years in prison.

Gonsalez-Garcia remains held in the McHenry County Jail awaiting transport to a state prison.
