Police were unable to locate a driver who fled the scene after crashing their vehicle off the roadway and into a creek near Woodstock Wednesday evening.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Woodstock Fire Rescue District responded around 10 p.m. Wednesday to Charles Road and Nelson Road in unincorporated Woodstock.
Dispatchers initially received an automated notification for a crash with airbag deployment in the area.
Deputies arrived and found a 2017 Ford Explorer that drove off the roadway east of the intersection.
The Ford landed in a creek and was reported to be approximately 20 feet off the roadway.
Firefighters used a thermal camera and deputies searched the area but they were unable to locate the driver or any occupants.
Rex Towing and D&L Midwest Towing were called to the scene to remove the car from the creek.
Crews were able to lift the car into the air and set it down on the roadway before loading it onto a flatbed tow truck.
It was not clear whether the driver of the vehicle had been identified.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident only involved one vehicle and said it is still under investigation.
