Cenobio Ortega-Pochotitlan, 49, of Mundelein.

Prosecutors say a Mundelein man sexually assaulted and abused two children on numerous occasions while he was supposed to be caring for them.

Cenobio Ortega-Pochotitlan, 49, of Mundelein, was charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, criminal sexual assault of a child and aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child.

The Mundelein Police Department responded on January 3 to a residence on Shadydell Avenue in Mundelein for a call of a domestic dispute.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Emma Smoler said officers arrived to find two female victims, who are relatives of Ortega-Pochotitlan.

Ortega-Pochotitlan said his life was ending and officers asked him why, Smoler said.

Ortega-Pochotitlan said that he sexually abused one of the victims approximately 14 years ago.

Officers brought the man to the police department to be interviewed and officers also interviewed the two victims.

One of the victims reported that when she was younger than 13 years old, Ortega-Pochotitlan would touch her inappropriately.

Ortega-Pochotitlan sexually assaulted the child while she was showering, Smoler said.

In another incident, both victims were playing together when Ortega-Pochotitlan allegedly entered the room and instructed one of the victims to go take a shower.

He then sexually assaulted the other victim, who was not showering, Smoler said.

One of the victims reported that Ortega-Pochotitlan sexually assaulted her approximately eight times, Smoler said.

The second victim reported an instance where Ortega-Pochotitlan brought her to the bathroom and inappropriately touched her.

During the time period of the incidents, Ortega-Pochotitlan was supposed to be watching the two victims, Smoler said.

Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak ordered the man held on a $1 million bond.
