A man was seriously injured after he jumped from the second floor of a high-rise apartment building in Waukegan during an altercation Sunday afternoon, police said.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 12:35 p.m. Sunday to Lakeside Towers, 200 Julian Street, for a call of a fall victim.
Fire department dispatchers reported the victim was on the east side of the building and police had arrived first.
Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Brian Mullen told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that officers learned an adult male jumped out of a window.
The subject jumped from the second floor in an attempt to flee an altercation, Mullen said.
The victim was conscious and breathing following the incident and was able to give officers a statement at the scene.
Paramedics transported the man to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan for treatment.
Mullen said the man’s injuries were serious but he is expected to survive.
Witnesses reported that several police officers were seen investigating and had put up crime scene tape.
Further details on the altercation that led to the jump were not released.
