Jason W. Mui, 40, of McHenry.

A McHenry man was sentenced on Tuesday to 180 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a juvenile girl in McHenry, court records show.

Jason W. Mui, 40, of McHenry, was initially charged in April 2021 with one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony.

A grand jury indicted him on an additional three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleged that the incident occurred in October.

Mui is accused of touching multiple inappropriate areas of a girl’s body, the complaint said. The victim was under the age of 17.

A grand jury indictment said Mui sexually abused the girl on multiple other occasions, including in 2018 and 2019.

The McHenry Police Department investigated the abuse and arrested Mui in April 2021, court documents show.

A McHenry County judge ordered Mui held in the McHenry County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

The man was released from the jail after posting $5,000 cash, jail records show.

Mui entered into a negotiated plea deal on Tuesday with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.

He pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in exchange for his other charges being dismissed.

McHenry County Judge James Cowlin approved the deal and sentenced Mui to 180 days in the county jail and two years of probation.

Mui will receive day-for-day credit, meaning he will only have to serve 90 days.

He is scheduled to be released from custody on April 14.

Mui will also have to register as a sex offender and undergo a sex offender evaluation and treatment.
