Huntley firefighters battled their second structure fire in less than 24 hours Thursday evening after a fire left a Lake in the Hills house with $200,000 in damage, officials said.
The Huntley Fire Protection District responded around 6:51 p.m. Thursday to the 2300 block of Wexford Lane in Lake in the Hills for a report of a structure fire.
Huntley Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Brian Harders said firefighters arrived to find a two-story home with a fire on the first floor.
Firefighters began an initial fire attack utilizing a hose line from an engine and secured water from a nearby fire hydrant.
It was confirmed that the occupants had safely evacuated the home prior to the fire department’s arrival.
The home was equipped with working smoke detectors, which helped alert the occupants of the fire.
Firefighters worked for approximately 10 minutes to bring the fire under control.
The fire was contained to the kitchen but the home suffered smoke damage throughout.
Crews continued to work for another 30 minutes completing overhaul operations to make sure that the fire was completely extinguished.
Firefighters from Algonquin, Crystal Lake, Woodstock, Fox River Grove, Rutland Dundee and Marengo responded either to the scene or covered Huntley fire stations.
The home is uninhabitable. An initial loss estimate to the structure and contents is believed to be $200,000.
On Wednesday, the Huntley Fire Protection District was called to the 9900 block of Thornton Way in Huntley for a fire at a two-story quadplex building.
Firefighters entered the residence and found heavy smoke on the second floor. A dryer fire was quickly extinguished.
Two cats were located and rescued by firefighters. They were uninjured.
The cause of both fires is under investigation by the Huntley Fire Protection District.
