Tavarius Jackson, 27, of Chicago.

A group of suspects who stole high-end cars from a Barrington car dealership over the weekend also stole a responding officer’s police squad and totaled it after crashing the vehicle.

The Barrington Police Department responded around 8 a.m. Sunday to the Motor Werks, located at 1475 South Barrington Road in Barrington.

Several vehicles were stolen from the business, which is a collection of dealerships including Porsche, INFINITI, Honda, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

Officers were notified about suspicious activity at the business, police officials said.

Officers arrived and observed numerous offenders stealing vehicles from the Motor Werk’s car lot. The security gate had also been opened.

An officer positioned his squad car across the exit to the dealership to block the suspects.

One of the offenders, identified as Tavarius Jackson, 27, of Chicago, was in a stolen vehicle attempting to exit.

Police officials said Jackson accelerated and intentionally rammed the squad car.

The impact of the crash allowed the other suspects to leave the scene at a high rate of speed.

The offenders caused four separate crashes at various locations nearby due to their reckless driving at high rates of speed.

The crashes resulted in injuries to five people and significant property damage, police officials said.

Numerous police departments flooded the area and officers were able to take multiple suspects into custody.

One of the crashes involved a Barrington police squad car.

One of the suspects stole the squad car, which was apparently unlocked, several sources told Lake and McHenry County Scanner.

Police officials have not publicly confirmed it and they also did not mention it in a press release.

The police car sustained heavy damage after crashing off the roadway.

Charges were filed against Jackson for two counts of aggravated possession of a stolen motor vehicle, criminal damage to property, aggravated battery to a peace officer and aggravated fleeing to elude.

Prosecutors in court on Tuesday said Jackson was the one who stole the police car.

A second suspect, Lamont Jackson, 23, of Chicago, was charged with aggravated fleeing to elude and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Both offenders were on parole at the time for prior felony convictions.

Parole violation warrants have been issued for them.

A Cook County judge set bond at $100,000 for Lamont Jackson, who remains under medical care, records show.

The judge also set bond at $100,000 for Tavarius Jackson, who is the one that allegedly stole the squad car.
