A man suffered serious injuries and had to be flown to the hospital after he was ejected from a car that slammed into the rear of a semi-truck on Interstate 90 near Huntley.
The Illinois State Police responded around 10 p.m. to a 911 call for a silver Ford truck driving recklessly westbound on Interstate 90 at mile marker 61 near Hoffman Estates.
Dispatchers reported minutes later that they were receiving multiple 911 calls regarding the vehicle, according to police radio traffic.
The 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac was reported to be at mile marker 43 near Huntley around 10:20 p.m.
The Illinois State Police said the Ford Explorer had struck the rear of a semi-tractor trailer truck.
Both vehicles had been traveling in the westbound lanes when the crash occurred.
The driver of the Ford Explorer was ejected from the car and thrown to the ground.
The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured, a state police spokesperson said.
Firefighters arrived and reported the Ford Explorer had sustained heavy front-end damage.
Paramedics transported the victim to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley.
A LifeNet landed at the hospital and the victim was transferred to the helicopter.
The helicopter transported the victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The state police spokesperson said the man’s injuries were serious.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
