A teenager was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive after he was shot outside of Lakeside Towers in Waukegan over the weekend, police said.

The Waukegan Fire Department and Waukegan Police Department responded around 1 p.m. Saturday to Lakeside Towers, 200 Julian Street, for a report of a shooting.

Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Brian Mullen said officers arrived to find a single victim who had been shot.

Paramedics transported the victim, a Waukegan boy in his “upper teens,” to a local hospital.

The teenager’s injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening and he had suffered a single gunshot wound.

The Waukegan Police Department Criminal Investigation Division was called to the scene.

Investigators determined the shooting occurred outside of the building.

No suspects are in custody yet and suspect information was not available.

The Criminal Investigation Division is following up on investigative leads to identify and locate the suspect or suspects, Mullen said.

Lakeside Towers has been the scene of numerous shootings. In 2022, at least three separate shootings left four victims wounded.
