A man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after he crashed his motorcycle into a stopped vehicle on Route 14 in Crystal Lake Thursday evening, police said.

The Crystal Lake Police Department and Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 5:55 p.m. Thursday to Route 14 and Coventry Lane for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Richard Neumann said a preliminary investigation showed a sports utility vehicle was stopped in traffic.

The car was in the eastbound lanes on Route 14.

A motorcycle, which was also traveling eastbound, crashed into the sports utility vehicle, Neumann said.

The adult male operator of the motorcycle, which appeared to be some type of dirt bike, was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Crystal Lake Police Department Accident Investigation Team was notified and responded to the scene.

A portion of Route 14 was shut down for approximately two hours while investigators worked the scene, Neumann said.
