Police are searching for a suspect who robbed a tire shop at gunpoint in Crystal Lake and fled the scene in a vehicle Tuesday evening.

The incident happened around 6:11 p.m. Tuesday at Mavis Tires and Brakes, 5201 Northwest Highway in Crystal Lake.

The Crystal Lake Police Department responded to the scene but the suspect had fled in a vehicle.

An alert issued to area police departments said the suspect displayed a pistol.

The suspect fled in a grey convertible, possibly a Ford, and was last seen traveling northbound on Walkup Avenue.

The suspect was described as a young adult male. A clothing description was not provided.

The alert, which was issued approximately 45 minutes after the incident, did not say what was stolen in the robbery.

Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Richard Neumann declined to comment on the case.

Neumann said the incident is still under investigation and the department is unable to release information on it yet.

The suspect has not been taken into the custody of the McHenry County Jail yet.
