Charges have been filed against two men after a son stabbed his father after the father allegedly attacked the son’s juvenile sister in Lindenhurst, prosecutors said.
Emmanuel Ortiz, 42, of Lindenhurst, was charged with one count of domestic battery.
Nathan Ortiz, 18, of Lindenhurst, was charged with aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and two counts of domestic battery.
The Lindenhurst Police Department responded last Saturday to a call of a domestic incident at a residence.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Emma Smoler said officers learned the victim is the juvenile daughter of Emmanuel Ortiz.
Nathan Ortiz and one of his brothers, who are both sons of Emmanuel Ortiz, were present.
Nathan Ortiz got into an argument with his father and the father threw Nathan Ortiz’s belongings in a garbage can, Smoler said.
The juvenile victim stepped into the argument and told Emmanuel Ortiz that he was overreacting.
Emmanuel Ortiz told the girl to “shut up” and dragged her into the house by her arm, Smoler said.
Smoler said that Emmanuel Ortiz then pulled his daughter into the kitchen and pushed her into a refrigerator, shook her and slapped her in the face.
Nathan Ortiz picked up a knife and intentionally stabbed his father in the arm, Smoler said.
Emmanuel Ortiz had a puncture wound on his forearm, which required stitches.
Lake County Judge Donna-Jo Vorderstrasse ordered Emmanuel Ortiz held on a $10,000 bond.
Vorderstrasse ordered Nathan Ortiz held on a $50,000 bond.
Both men have since been released from the Lake County Jail after posting bond.
