A man is being held on a $500,000 bond after prosecutors allege he went on an hours-long attack on an elderly woman, leaving her seriously injured, in Fox Lake.
Matthew R. Kinzie, 32, of Fox Lake, was charged with aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, aggravated battery of a victim over 60, unlawful restraint, two counts of domestic battery and interfering with the report of domestic violence.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Kelse Banks said a woman’s boyfriend reported receiving strange texts from her on January 31.
He then received a follow-up text asking him to call 911.
Dispatchers attempted to call the woman directly and a man picked up the phone and then disconnected.
Banks said that officers arrived at the woman’s residence and encountered Kinzie, who threatened them with a stick.
Officers found the female victim in a bathroom. She had multiple injuries, including to her face and other parts of her body, Banks said.
An officer said the victim had one of the worst swollen eyes he has ever seen.
The victim reported that there was a verbal argument and Kinzie beat her for hours by punching her and kicking her, Banks said.
The victim is over 60 years old and a family member of Kinzie.
Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak ordered Kinzie held on a $500,000 bond.
Kinzie remains held in the Lake County Jail and would need to post $50,000 cash to be released.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 7.
