An 8-year-old boy has been released from the hospital but is expected to undergo surgery after being wounded during a shooting in Round Lake Beach Saturday evening, police said.

The Round Lake Beach Police Department received a 911 call around 8:39 p.m. Saturday for a report of shots fired in the 500 block of Meadow Green Lane.

Round Lake Beach Police Department Chief of Police Wayne Wilde Jr. said officers arrived and found two people who had been wounded.

An 8-year-old boy and a 26-year-old were suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.

Wilde said it was determined that the victims were hit by bullet fragments during the incident.

The child was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.

The child has since been released from the hospital but is expected to undergo surgery later this week to have the fragments removed, Wilde said.

While police initially said the adult victim was transported to the hospital, that victim refused transport to the hospital and only suffered superficial wounds.

Wilde said the investigation has shown the shooting was an “isolated incident and the public is not in any danger.”

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the police department at 847-546-2127.

The incident remains under investigation by the Round Lake Beach Police Department.
