A two-year-old child has been located safely in Waukegan after a suspect stole an SUV from a residence near Libertyville while the child was in the car.

The incident happened around 3:35 p.m. Thursday in the 16000 block of West Buckley Road in unincorporated Libertyville.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said they received a report of a stolen vehicle from the residence.

A suspect entered a white 2021 Volkswagen Atlas and stole it.

A 2-year-old child was in the vehicle when the suspect stole it, the sheriff’s office said.

The suspect was described as a male, who is tall and thin, last seen wearing a gray zip-up hoodie and light green COVID-style mask.

The Volkswagen fled eastbound on Route 137 from the scene.

The sheriff’s office said in an update around 4:15 p.m. that the child was located safe in Waukegan.

The suspect, who is wanted for child abduction and possession of a stolen auto, has not been located.

The stolen vehicle has also not been recovered yet. The license plate is CS26906.

Anyone who spots the vehicle is asked to call 911, the sheriff’s office said.
