Firefighters from well over a dozen departments were called to a three-alarm fire that caused $250,000 in damage to a home near Hebron Saturday evening, fire officials said.

The Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District responded around 5:37 p.m. Saturday to the 8100 block of Johnson Road in unincorporated Hebron for a report of a structure fire.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find a two-story residential structure with smoke showing from the roof, according to Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District Fire Chief Thomas Linneman.

Firefighters from Harvard, Richmond, Spring Grove, Wonder Lake and Woodstock were also called to the scene.

Linneman said the fire was located in the interior wall of the home.

The fire had extended into multiple concealed and hard-to-access void spaces in the attic and walls.

The incident was upgraded through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) to a box alarm and then eventually to a third alarm.

Many firefighters were needed due to the extensive overhaul operations and the rural location, Linneman said.

Firefighters from Crystal Lake, Fox Lake, Marengo, Huntley and Capron Rescue responded, along with firefighters from Wisconsin including the Town of Randall, Twin Lakes, City of Lake Geneva, City of Delevan, Town of Delevan, Town of Salem and Walworth.

The MercyHealth MD-1 unit, Salvation Army Canteen and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office also assisted.

McHenry and Cary fire departments provided coverage at Hebron’s fire station during the incident.

The fire was declared under control approximately two hours after firefighters arrived.

Crews remained on the scene completing overhaul and extinguishing out hot spots.

No civilians or firefighters were injured during the fire, Linneman said. Damage to the home is estimated at $250,000.

The fire appears to be accidental in nature, Linneman said.
