Police are investigating after a gunman or gunmen fired shots at a house in Lindenhurst Friday morning in what is believed to be a targeted act, officials said.

The Lindenhurst Police Department responded around 1:30 a.m. Friday to the 500 block of Deerpath Drive for a report of shots fired.

Lindenhurst Chief of Police Thomas Jones said the 911 caller reported hearing gunshots outside of the residence.

Officers arrived and discovered physical evidence in the street that gunshots had been fired.

Additional evidence was located at a residence that showed gunshots were fired at the residence.

No victims with gunshot wounds had been located and nobody inside the home was injured, Jones said.

A preliminary investigation led investigators to believe this was an isolated incident and not a random act, Jones said.

Lindenhurst police officers are investigating the shooting and canvassing the area for additional evidence.

The incident remains under active investigation by the Lindenhurst Police Department.
