Two suspects are in custody after two officers were injured, one of which was transported to the hospital, during a stolen vehicle investigation at Gurnee Mills Saturday.
The Gurnee Police Department received notification around 12:50 p.m. Saturdayย from the Flock safety system of a stolen vehicle in the area.
Officers responded to Gurnee Mills mall, 6170 Route 132 in Gurnee, and located the stolen vehicle unoccupied.
Security video was reviewed and officers identified the suspects who arrived in the stolen vehicle, police officials said.
Officers located the two inside the Kohl’s store.
Jasmyn C. Schiller, 23, of Silver Lake, Wisconsin, was placed into custody.
Other officers approached the second offender, Lee E. Hernandez, 38, of Beach Park, and notified him he was under arrested.
Police officials said Hernandez fled from the officers and they caught up to him, at which time he resisted arrest and fought officers while they tried to place him in handcuffs.
Additional officers arrived and assisted with taking Hernandez into custody.
An officer suffered a broken ankle during the arrest and another officer sustained a laceration to his hand.
The police officer with the broken ankle, who is a 10-year veteran of the department, was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The second Gurnee officer received medical attention for the laceration at the scene, police said.
Hernandez did not report any injuries but complained of shortness of breath and was transported to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
He was later released from the hospital and transported to the Gurnee Police Department where he was booked and processed.
Hernandez was charged with reckless conduct causing great bodily harm and resisting a peace officer.
A judge ordered Hernandez held on a $250,000 bond during a hearing Sunday.
Schiller, who was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, was ordered held on a $1 million. She also had an active arrest warrant out of Wisconsin, police said.
Schiller and Hernandez both remain held in the Lake County Jail.
