The Lake County Coroner’s Office has performed an autopsy on an 80-year-old man from Huntley who died after a truck crashed head-on into his car in Kane County Sunday.

An autopsy performed Monday showed William Granias, 80, of Huntley, died of blunt force injuries as a result of a vehicle crash, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.

The Hampshire Fire Protection District and Kane County Sheriff’s Office responded around 9:06 a.m. Sunday to the 45W100 block of Allen Road in Hampshire Township.

The Hampshire Fire Protection District said they arrived to find a two-vehicle crash with heavy damage on Allen Road west of Ketchum Road.

One of the cars had rolled over onto its and victims were trapped in both vehicles.

Granias was extricated by firefighters from his 2013 Toyota Prius, according to fire officials and the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

A LifeNet helicopter was requested and landed near the crash scene.

Granias was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville by the LifeNet helicopter.

Granias suffered critical, life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead at the hospital, the sheriff’s office said.

Jose Vieyra, 60, of Hampshire, was identified as the driver of the other vehicle, a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Vieyra and a 58-year-old female passenger in the Ford were treated at the scene for their injuries. One of them had to be extricated from the truck.

The sheriff’s office said an investigation showed that Vieyra had been driving the Ford eastbound on Allen Road.

He lost control of his vehicle due to the roadway being icy and traveled into the westbound lane of traffic, the sheriff’s office said.

The Ford struck the Toyota, which was traveling westbound.
