Firefighters extricated a man from a car after he suffered life-threatening injuries during a head-on crash on Route 176 near Woodstock Thursday evening.
The Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts, Union Fire Protection District and Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded around 6:18 p.m. Thursday to Route 176 and Sunnyside Road in unincorporated Woodstock.
Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said crews received a report of a vehicle crash with entrapment at the location.
Firefighters arrived and located a serious head-on two-vehicle crash just west of the intersection.
A male driver in a white Nissan sedan was trapped in his vehicle, Vucha said.
It took approximately 20 minutes for firefighters to extricate the driver from the heavily-damaged car.
Vucha said paramedics transported the victim to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.
A second driver in a black pickup truck was uninjured and refused medical attention.
Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles and no other injuries were reported.
Route 176 was closed in both directions for over an hour while crews worked at the scene, Vucha said.
The crash happened during heavy snowfall but it was not immediately known whether that contributed to the cause of the crash.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
