Four people were injured after an SUV crashed into a gym in Riverwoods Sunday morning, leaving one of the victims briefly pinned between the car and the building.
The Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District and Riverwoods Police Department responded around 8:30 a.m. Sunday to Orangetheory Fitness, 2037 Milwaukee Avenue in Riverwoods.
A 911 call was made for a report of an auto accident with injuries, according to Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Steve McCaughey.
A 911 caller reported that a single vehicle had crashed into the building.
The caller also reported that one of the victims was possibly pinned in the crash, McCaughey said.
Emergency crews arrived and found that no victims were trapped or pinned in the crash.
McCaughey said it was learned that one of the victims had initially been pinned between the car and the front counter. Four victims were injured in the crash.
Three of them were transported to local hospitals. Their conditions were not known.
One of the four victims was treated by paramedics and released at the scene, McCaughey said.
The Wheeling, Northbrook and Deerfield-Bannockburn fire departments assisted at the scene.
A restoration company was called to the scene to board up the front windows and doors that were damaged.
The crash remains under investigation by the Riverwoods Police Department.
