Authorities say a Batavia man brandished a pistol at another motorist after allegedly preventing the victim from merging on Route 176 near Wauconda Monday morning.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 8:15 a.m. Monday to the area of Route 176 and Fairfield Road in unincorporated Wauconda.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said deputies received a call for a reckless driver.

Deputies learned there had been a road rage incident involving a 53-year-old man and Anthony J. Delorto, 37, of Batavia.

The 53-year-old man reported that Delorto did not allow him to merge as the two traveled eastbound on Route 176, Covelli said.

As the two proceeded east following the merge, Delorto produced a firearm and waived it at the victim, Covelli said.

The victim called 911 to report the incident.

Delorto was later spotted pulling into a business in the 28700 block of North Route 83 in unincorporated Mundelein.

Mundelein police officers responded and located Delorto. Sheriff’s deputies arrived and placed Delorto into custody.

Covelli said the pistol brandished by Delorto was recovered from his vehicle.

Delorto has a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification card but no concealed carry license, Covelli said.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved misdemeanor charges of unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated assault and disorderly conduct.

Delorto was processed at the Lake County Jail and released on a $1,500 personal recognizance bond.

He is scheduled to appear in court again on March 28.
