The sheriff’s office says they are searching for a 17-year-old boy who went missing and was last seen near a juvenile detention center near Vernon Hills.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said that Nasir Harris, 17, was last seen Friday evening.

He was last seen leaving a facility in the 24600 block of North Milwaukee Avenue in unincorporated Vernon Hills.

The Division of Juvenile Probation and Detention Service is located at 24647 North Milwaukee Avenue.

When asked if he escaped from the Hulse Juvenile Detention Center, the sheriff’s office said that he was not in custody and did not escape.

Harris is described as a male black, 5-foot-11, 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

He is a resident of Gurnee, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said they are attempting to locate Harris so they can check his well-being.

Anyone who spots him is asked to call their local law enforcement agency.
