Two occupants were injured and residents were displaced after two separate fires damaged homes in Buffalo Grove and Green Oaks Sunday evening, authorities said.
The Buffalo Grove Fire Department responded around 8:27 p.m. Sunday to the 600 block of Checker Drive for a report of a structure fire.
Firefighters arrived in three minutes and found an active fire in a second-floor bedroom of a single-family home.
Five occupants were found outside on the driveway. They confirmed there was no one else in the home.
Two of the occupants were evaluated on the scene by paramedics and declined transport to the hospital.
Firefighters brought the fire under control within 10 minutes.
The cause of the fire is unknown and is currently under investigation.
Initial estimates for fire damage are $100,000. The home was deemed uninhabitable.
Less than two hours after the Buffalo Grove fire, a second fire was reported in Lake County.
The Libertyville Fire Department said they were called around 10:15 p.m. Sunday to the 31100 block of Prairie Ridge Court North in Green Oaks for a report of smoke inside a home.
Firefighters arrived to find fire in the walls around the fireplace, causing smoke inside the house.
The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to the box alarm level.
Fire crews performed fire suppression and overhaul and the fire was declared out in less than 30 minutes.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
