A 38-year-old woman was found murdered after apparently being strangled and later found Monday morning inside her apartment in Zion.

The Zion Police Department and Zion Fire-Rescue Department responded around 11:10 a.m. Monday to the 2200 block of Lewis Avenue in Zion.

Emergency crews received a call for a report of a person deceased.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that officers found a 38-year-old woman who was confirmed dead.

The apartment where the woman was found was her residence.

The coroner’s office was dispatched to the scene around 11:30 a.m. to assist in the investigation.

The victim was later identified as Kristin Pitak, 38, of Zion.

An autopsy was completed on Pitak on Tuesday at the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

The final autopsy report is still pending but the evidence shows Pitak was strangled, the coroner’s office said.

A 50-year-old man is in custody in connection with the murder, court records show.

The Zion Police Department has not released any information on the incident but told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that details on the case are expected to be released Thursday afternoon.
