A 17-year-old boy has been charged as an adult for allegedly firing shots during an attempted home invasion and robbery where a woman was shot at a residence in Woodstock.
Quran Broomfield, 17, of Rockford, was charged with armed robbery, attempted home invasion, aggravated discharge of a firearm, two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a handgun under 18.
The charges were filed on March 7 in McHenry County Circuit Court.
Broomfield “took a substantial step” toward entering a home in the 1700 block of Yasgur Drive in Woodstock on January 24, 2022, while knowing people were inside the home, according to a charging document filed by prosecutors.
Broomfield used force by discharging a firearm into the residence, prosecutors said.
The teenager robbed another juvenile of their phone and ear pods at gunpoint, prosecutors said.
Broomfield was also illegally possessing a 9mm handgun because he was under the age of 21 and did not have a Firearm Owner’s Identification card, prosecutors said.
Responding officers arrived on the scene and located a woman who had sustained a gunshot wound to her shoulder.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District transported the victim to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Woodstock.
She was then transported by a LifeStar medical helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Her injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening.
Police said at the time that the suspects fired several rounds at the female victim and her acquaintance before fleeing the area in a white sedan, possibly a Cadillac CTS.
An alert sent out across the Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network to area police departments said there were possibly at least four suspects involved.
The suspects possibly stole a vehicle and committed several armed robberies in the Rockford region within a short time span of the shooting, Woodstock Police Chief John Lieb said at the time.
Broomfield was petitioned to the juvenile court and detained in early December, court documents show.
He was released from custody to his mother less than two weeks later but is now back in custody after being charged as an adult.
McHenry County Judge Michael Coppedge earlier this month ordered Broomfield held in the juvenile jail on a $350,000 bond.
Court records indicate additional suspects, who are minors, have been charged in addition to Broomfield.
Broomfield remains held in custody and would need to post $35,000 cash in order to be released.
An arraignment hearing and a hearing on a motion to reduce bond are scheduled for Tuesday.
