Markus G. Antonsen, 51, of McHenry.

A McHenry man allegedly illegally brought pills into the Lake County Jail in Waukegan by hiding them in his dentures, prosecutors said.

Markus G. Antonsen, 51, of McHenry, was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Dino Katris said Antonsen was arrested by the Kildeer Police Department for outstanding arrest warrants.

Officers transported Antonsen to the Lake County Jail in Waukegan.

Antonsen was being searched when officers found pills, believed to be Xanax, in his dentures, Katris said.

Antonsen also had capsules and powder substance, which tested positive for heroin, on his person.

Katris said Antonsen was transported to the hospital after displaying signs of impairment from ingestion of the drugs.

Antonsen was released from the hospital and transported back to the Lake County Jail.

Antonsen refused to come to his initial court hearing last weekend.

Lake County Judge Christopher Lombardo set bond at $50,000, meaning Antonsen would need to post $5,000 cash to be released.

A bond review hearing was held Wednesday and a judge denied a request to reduce the bond.

Antonsen remains held in the jail and is scheduled to appear in court on April 4 for a status of preliminary hearing.
