A 25-year-old man was ordered held on a $3 million bond after he was charged with sexually assaulting a woman at gunpoint in Riverwoods and later allegedly threatening her mother.
Matthew R. Aronson, 25, of Palatine, was charged with three counts of criminal sexual assault, two counts of aggravated domestic battery, cyberstalking and electronic harassment threatening a person.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Emma Smoler said a victim went to the Highland Park Police Department on December 23.
The woman reported an incident that occurred the night before at a hotel in Riverwoods.
She had numerous injuries on her face and neck and reported that the suspect was Aronson, Smoler said.
Smoler said that Aronson had picked the victim up and taken her to a room he rented at the Holiday Inn, located at 2600 Lake Cook Road.
Aronson gave the victim a substance and alcoholic beverages, Smoler said.
Aronson told the victim to perform oral sex on him but she refused and he became angry, Smoler said.
Smoler said the woman tried to leave the room but Aronson grabbed the victim and threw her onto the bed.
He pulled out a revolver, pointed it at her and grabbed her hair before punching her several times, Smoler said.
Aronson pointed the handgun at the victim and said that she “should die,” Smoler said, adding that he then forced the victim to perform oral sex on him.
In February, Aronson allegedly threatened the sexual assault victim’s mother, telling her that she will “not see it coming” and to “watch out,” Smoler said.
Riverwoods Police Chief Bruce Dayno said Aronson was taken into custody by the Downers Grove Police Department at a hotel in Downers Grove around 11 p.m. on March 9.
He was transported to the Lake County Jail on the warrant.
Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak initially set Aronson’s bond at $1 million.
Potkonjak increased Aronson’s bond to $3 million during a Tuesday court hearing.
Aronson remains held in the Lake County Jail and would need to post $300,000 cash in order to be released.
