A 38-year-old man is facing charges for allegedly neglecting an elderly woman and threatening to kill her while being her caretaker in Marengo, court records show.
Ryan I. Giner, 38, of Marengo, was charged with abuse or neglect by a caregiver, a Class 3 felony, and attempted disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said Giner was the sole caretaker for an elderly woman, who is a family member.
Giner exposed the victim to “willful deprivation” by flushing her prescription medication down the toilet to prevent her from using it, the complaint said.
During an argument with the victim, Giner threatened to kill the female victim, the complaint said.
The victim is an elderly person who is medically informed and requires continual assistance and caretaking, the complaint said.
The incident, which occurred around 4 a.m. Saturday, was investigated by the Marengo Police Department.
Giner was arrested and transported to the McHenry County Jail on Tuesday.
McHenry County Judge Mark Gerhardt ordered Giner held on a $15,000 bond.
Giner was released from the jail after posting 10% of his bond. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 28.
