The state fire marshal is assisting in the investigation after a fire engulfed a house and left it uninhabitable near Antioch Saturday evening, authorities said.
The Antioch Fire Department responded around 9:56 p.m. Saturday to the 26300 block of West Prospect Avenue in unincorporated Antioch for a report of a structure fire.
Antioch Fire Chief Jon Cokefair said firefighters arrived to find flames showing from the front of a ranch-style residence.
Crews encountered a heavy volume of fire and the area does not have fire hydrants.
The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to the box alarm level to bring additional resources to the scene.
The Lake Villa, Fox Lake, Round Lake, Newport, Spring Grove, McHenry, Grayslake, Great Lakes, Waukegan, Pleasant Prairie, Salem Lakes, Twin Lakes and Bristol.
Firefighters worked for approximately four hours to extinguish and conduct overhaul operations to ensure hidden fires were extinguished.
The house was heavily damaged and deemed uninhabitable.
No residents or firefighters were injured in the fire.
The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal was called to assist in the investigation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Antioch Fire Department, Lake County Sheriff’s Office and state fire marshal.
