Police say an 81-year-old man died after he was critically injured when a pickup truck hit him along Buffalo Grove Road in Buffalo Grove Saturday evening.

The Buffalo Grove Police Department and Buffalo Grove Fire Department responded around 7:48 p.m. Saturday to Buffalo Grove Road north of Golfview Terrace.

Officers received a call for a crash involving a pedestrian struck by a vehicle, the police department said.

Officers arrived to find a male pedestrian, identified as Alex Gorn, 81, of Buffalo Grove, who was injured.

Gorn was transported by paramedics to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights where he was later pronounced dead, police officials said.

The driver of the involved vehicle, a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado, remained at the scene and was uninjured.

Buffalo Grove Deputy Police Chief Brian Spolar said Gorn had parked his car in the median on Buffalo Grove Road before the crash.

Gorn got out of his car to look at a snowblower that was in front of a residence.

The Chevrolet had been traveling southbound on Buffalo Grove Road when it struck Gorn, who was in the roadway, Spolar said.

A portion of Buffalo Grove Road between Golfview Terrace and Bernard Drive was shut down for approximately four hours due to the incident.

Members of the Buffalo Grove Police Departmentโ€™s Traffic Unit and Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) responded to the scene.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined and remains under investigation, police officials said.

No citations have been issued and no charges have been filed against the driver yet.
