The coroner’s office has identified an 18-year-old man who died after his motorcycle collided with an SUV on Cedar Lake Road in Round Lake Beach Monday afternoon.
An autopsy performed Tuesday showed that Alexis Coria, 18, of Round Lake Park, died as a result of blunt force injuries from a vehicle crash, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.
The Round Lake Beach Police Department and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded around 2:38 p.m. Monday to Cedar Lake Road and Ferndale Drive in Round Lake Beach.
Round Lake Beach Police Deputy Chief Ryan Rodriguez said officers received a report of a vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and a car.
A preliminary investigation showed Coria was traveling southbound on Cedar Lake Road on a motorcycle.
The motorcyclist crashed into a 2008 Saturn SUV at the intersection of Ferndale Drive.
Coria was reportedly not breathing, a 911 caller reported.
Paramedics arrived and rushed the man to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office said they were notified by the hospital around 5:45 p.m. that Coria had been pronounced dead.
Rodriguez said the driver of the SUV was not injured.
Cedar Lake Road was shut down in both directions for several hours while the crash was being investigated.
A witness told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the motorcyclist had been driving recklessly down Cedar Lake Road earlier in the day prior to the crash.
Police have not said who they believe to be at fault in the crash.
The investigation is being conducted by the Round Lake Beach Police Department, Lake County Coroner’s Office and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.
