Police are investigating after Woodstock firefighters responding to a brush fire call found an elderly man deceased and burned in Bull Valley Thursday afternoon.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded around 3 p.m. Thursday to the 400 block of Cold Springs Road in Bull Valley for a brush fire.

Bull Valley Chief of Police Tracy Dickens told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that a resident, who lives in the 500 block, called 911 after noticing smoke coming from the wooded area of her neighbor’s house to the south.

Firefighters arrived and discovered several small areas on fire, which appeared to be controlled burns.

Firefighters, upon further investigation, found an elderly man deceased and partially burned by one of the fires, Dickens said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Bull Valley Police Department were called to the scene.

The man’s death appears to be accidental but is still under investigation pending an autopsy on him, Dickens said.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending notifications to his family.

“There does not appear to be any threat to the community,” Dickens said.

The incident remains under investigation by the Bull Valley Police Department.
