A Waukegan man, who is on probation, ran multiple red lights and drove into oncoming traffic while leading police on a chase in Waukegan, prosecutors said.
Anthony Gallegos, 21, of Waukegan, was charged with aggravated fleeing to elude, reckless driving, three counts of disregarding a traffic control device and driving without a license.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Lillian Lewis said officers spotted Gallegos driving in Waukegan around 12:45 a.m. on April 8.
Officers knew that Gallegos did not have a driver’s license and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
Gallegos was driving on Grand Avenue and drove through a red light at McAree Road, Lewis said.
Lewis said that Gallegos ran two other red lights, including at the intersections of Grand Avenue and Green Bay Road and at Route 41 and Grand Avenue.
Gallegos was weaving in between lanes and driving into oncoming traffic while fleeing police, Lewis said.
Officers later located Gallegos and arrested him at the address where the car was registered to.
Court records show Gallegos was on probation at the time for an aggravated unlawful use of a weapon case out of Zion that occurred in July 2021.
He was sentenced to 24 months of probation in April 2022. Prosecutors in December filed a petition to revoke his probation.
Lake County Judge Randie Bruno ordered Gallegos held on a $250,000 umbrella bond, which combines bond for both of his active cases.
A status of preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
