A McHenry man has been charged with luring and kidnapping a child, who was under the age of 13, in McHenry Monday evening, court records show.
Robert P. Klein, 20, of McHenry, was charged with kidnapping, grooming, solicitation to meet a child, contributing to the criminal delinquency of a minor and child luring.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Klein communicated electronically with a child on Monday.
Klein lured and solicited the child by arranging to meet with them at a location without the child’s parents, the complaint said.
Klein groomed the child by communicating electronically to seduce, solicit, lure and entice the child to commit a sex offense, the complaint said.
The complaint said Klein kidnapped the child, who is under the age of 13, by confining them without the child’s parents’ consent.
Klein also provided the juvenile with cannabis to consume, the complaint added.
The case was investigated by the McHenry Police Department and Klein was arrested Tuesday.
McHenry County Judge Michael Coppedge ordered Klein held on a $75,000 bond during a Wednesday bond hearing.
Klein was released from the McHenry County Jail on Wednesday after posting 10% of his bond.
Klein is scheduled to appear in court Friday morning for a status of preliminary hearing.
