Schools in the Round Lake area were placed on lockdown Friday for the second day in a row while police respond to a “community safety event,” officials said.
Round Lake Area Schools District 116 officials sent a message to parents at 10:50 a.m. Friday regarding the situation.
All schools in the district with the exception of Kindergarten at Pleviak in Lake Villa were placed on a shelter-in-place.
School officials said it was due to a “community safety event” and all students were safe inside the schools.
Officials did not provide further information but police activity was noticed by area residents in Round Lake and Round Lake Beach.
Officers were spotted in a residential area along Cedar Lake Road near Beachview Drive.
Officers were also present at multiple schools during the lockdown.
The lockdown was lifted around 11:45 a.m. Friday.
Schools in District 116 were also placed on lockdown Thursday.
