Police say a Wisconsin woman was charged after officers arrested a group who committed a retail theft in Vernon Hills and then recklessly fled from police and crashed in Libertyville.
A retail theft was committed around 6 p.m. on April 6 at the Mariano’s, 1720 North Milwaukee Avenue in Vernon Hills, according to a police report.
The offenders fled in a silver Chevrolet and were spotted by an officer around 6:22 p.m. traveling westbound on Lake Street from Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville.
An officer later observed the same vehicle traveling westbound on Lake Street near Butler Lake Park, the report said.
A traffic stop was attempted on the silver Chevrolet near Lake Street and Stonegate Drive.
The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and fled the area at a high rate of speed through the residential neighborhood, the report said.
The officer terminated the attempt to stop the vehicle and observed the Chevrolet continue westbound on Lake Street at a high rate of speed.
The officer also observed the suspect vehicle pass several vehicles and drive through a controlled intersection without stopping in a reckless manner, the report said.
Officers were called to a vehicle crash at Lake Street and Butterfield Road in Libertyville a short time later.
The 911 callers reported that three subjects from the silver Chevrolet fled on foot toward Pine Meadow Golf Course.
Officers located the three occupants and arrested them.
The report said the driver was identified as Shaquana Vanlandingham, 23, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Vanlandingham was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries from the vehicle crash.
The other two occupants were identified and released without charges pending the investigation of the retail theft by the Vernon Hills Police Department.
None of the other subjects involved in the crash reported any injuries, the report said.
The Lake County Stateโs Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and charged Vanlandingham with two counts of aggravated fleeing to elude, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, driving on a revoked license, no valid registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and two counts of disregarding a stop sign.
Vanlandingham was released from the hospital and transported to the Libertyville Police Department where she was processed.
Vanlandingham was transported to the Lake County Jail and appeared in bond court where she was ordered held on a $200,000 bond.
