Lawrence Palmer, 40, of Antioch.

An Antioch man was arrested after prosecutors say he committed a home invasion in Fox Lake and punched a female resident in the face during the break-in.

Lawrence Palmer, 40, of Antioch, was charged with home invasion, battery causing bodily harm and possession of methamphetamine.

The Fox Lake Police Department responded on April 9 to a report of a battery in the 0-100 block of Hillcrest Avenue in Fox Lake.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Emma Smoler said the 911 caller reported they were beaten up.

Officers learned that Palmer entered the residence through a rear door to a basement of the home.

Palmer overheard the victim, who lives at the home, talking on the phone and punched her in the face, Smoler said.

A witness observed the events and Smoler said that no one had invited Palmer to the home.

Prosecutors did not say whether Palmer knew the residents of the home or not.

Officers later located Palmer and took him into custody. He was found with less than a gram of methamphetamine in his pocket.

Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak ordered Palmer held on a $350,000 bond.

Potkonjak read off Palmer’s extensive criminal history during a bond hearing.

Palmer has served multiple prison sentences and has convictions for burglaries, battery, possession of a controlled substance, theft and domestic battery.

Palmer remains held in the Lake County Jail and would need to post $35,000 cash to be released.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 10.
