Police are investigating after a 72-year-old man was found dead lying in a pool of blood after apparently being stabbed at a residence in Wauconda Wednesday afternoon.

The Wauconda Police Department and Wauconda Fire District responded around 1:23 p.m. Wednesday to the 300 block of Stillwater Court.

Wauconda Police Department Sgt. Heather Cognac said officers received a call for a man who was found unconscious and bloody.

Officers arrived and located a 72-year-old man lying in a pool of blood on the floor of the residence.

The man was not breathing and had apparent stab wounds on his body, Cognac said.

It was determined the man was deceased upon the arrival of the officers.

Cognac said the deceased man’s live-in significant other called 911 and reported the incident.

She is fully cooperating with the investigation at this time, Cognac said.

The Lake County Major Crime Task Force was contacted and is assisting the Wauconda Police Department with the investigation.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and has scheduled an autopsy for Thursday morning.

Cognac said the police department does not believe there is any threat to the general public but she did not provide further information.

The incident remains under investigation by the Wauconda Police Department, Lake County Coroner’s Office and Lake County Major Crime Task Force.
