Police say a woman accidentally crashed her car into the front of a liquor store near Deerfield, causing damage to the front doors and merchandise inside.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3:15 p.m. Monday to Deerfield Wine and Spirits, 20606 Milwaukee Avenue in unincorporated Deerfield.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said deputies received a report that a car drove into the building.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found a 2023 Tesla sedan that had just driven into the building.
The driver of the Tesla, a 40-year-old Riverwoods woman, was uninjured, Covelli said.
Only one person was inside the store at the time of the crash and they were also uninjured.
Sheriff’s deputies determined the driver of the Tesla accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake while pulling into a parking spot.
Covelli said that it was fortunate the car did not hit the daycare facility, which is only feet away from where the collision occurred.
No citations were issued due to there being no reckless intentions or injuries, and because the crash was on private property.
“The damage will be handled by insurance companies,” Covelli said.
A flatbed tow truck responded to the scene and towed the Tesla, which had moderate front-end damage.
