Multiple fire departments conducted searches on the Fox River near McHenry Wednesday morning for a 28-year-old man who disappeared over the weekend.
The McHenry Police Department has been searching for Gustavo Guzman-Perez, 28, of McHenry.
Members of Guzman-Perez’s family reported him missing to the police department Saturday afternoon.
The police department said they have been actively searching for Guzman-Perez since that time.
Guzman-Perez was seen around 2 a.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of North Green Street in McHenry, police initially said.
Police later said he was last seen around the same time near a residence in the 3000 block of West Virginia Avenue, which is approximately a mile southeast of the Green Street location.
The McHenry Police Department was assisted in the search on Sunday by the McHenry Township Fire Protection District, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and the McHenry County Emergency Management Agency.
Approximately 60 volunteers trained in search and rescue assisted in the search efforts along with an aerial drone and police canines.
An area covering 665 acres in and around the McHenry Country Club was searched, police said.
Firefighters used watercraft to search the Fox River from Route 120 to the McHenry Dam.
Authorities continued their search efforts Wednesday, according to McHenry Police Department Public Affairs Officer Michael Spohn.
The McHenry Police Department, McHenry Township Fire Protection District, Wauconda Fire District and Nunda Rural Fire Protection District conducted additional searches on the Fox River from 9:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Spohn said Wednesday’s search efforts, which also involved the use of a drone, did not result in any findings.
Gustavo-Perez was last seen in the 3000 block of West Virginia Avenue in McHenry, which is where a friend of his resides, Spohn said.
He was with the friend and then not seen after leaving.
Spohn said investigators have “nothing reliable” in regard to Gustavo-Perez’s phone location data.
Gustavo-Perez has no known medical or mental health issues that may place him in danger, Spohn added.
He is described as being a male Hispanic, 5-foot-5 and 150 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
Gustavo-Perez was last seen wearing blue jeans and a dark-colored, possibly navy or black, Nike brand hooded sweatshirt.
Police said they have no reason to suspect foul play being a factor in Gustavo-Perez’s disappearance.
