Victor J. Asturias, 43, of Zion.

A judge set bond at $3 million for a Zion man after prosecutors said he sexually assaulted a child in Zion and physically abused her, leaving visible injuries.

Victor J. Asturias, 43, of Zion, was charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and one count of domestic battery causing bodily harm.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Dino Katris said the mother of a child reported to the Zion Police Department that Asturias sexually abused her daughter.

Katris said that Asturias asked the victim, who is currently under 13, to touch herself when she was 11 years old.

He also inappropriately touched her over a span of months, Katris said.

Asturias exposed himself to the child in June and made sexual contact with her, Katris said.

Asturias also showed the victim videos of sexually explicit material, Katris said.

Asturias allegedly made admissions to the mother of the victim regarding the incidents.

Katris said that Asturias has physically beaten the victim by kicking and slapping her, along with using a belt to hit her.

Asturias previously got jealous after seeing the child talk to boys, leading to physical abuse, Katris said.

Investigators spoke to Asturias and he admitted to some of the allegations.

Katris, who called Asturias a flight risk, asked the court to impose a $3 million bond. A public defender for Asturias did not make any bond arguments.

Lake County Judge Bolling Haxall ordered Asturias held on a $3 million bond.

Asturias remains held in the Lake County Jail and would have to post $300,000 cash in order to be released.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
