A woman survived but had to be extricated from her car after it was left with severe damage when it slammed into a pole in Buffalo Grove Saturday morning.

The Buffalo Grove Police Department and Buffalo Grove Fire Department responded around 2:30 a.m. Saturday to Lake Cook Road and Raupp Boulevard for a report of a single-vehicle crash.

A preliminary investigation showed a 2012 Kia Rio was traveling eastbound on Lake Cook Road when it left the roadway, Buffalo Grove village officials said.

The Kia struck a large street light pole east of Raupp Boulevard.

Firefighters arrived to find the Kia with significant damage.

The female driver of the car was trapped inside the wreckage, officials said.

Firefighters worked for approximately 10 minutes to extricate the woman.

Paramedics transported the victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Eastbound Lake Cook Road was shut down for approximately three hours during the incident.

Police did not say whether the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Buffalo Grove Police Department.
